Lorna Kearney, manager of the Jersey Women’s Refuge – which has helped more than 1,000 people in the past year – says that women are often reluctant to leave an abusive partner because they fear that it will not be the right thing to do for their children’s safety.
The refuge offers a wide variety of therapies, courses and programmes for domestic abuse victims and their children that are available both to their clients and the wider community.
The centre has recently decorated its children’s play area and young people’s lounge and has a special children and young people’s worker, Marine Oliveila, who works with those who have been living in an abusive home.
