Emergency services were called to the property shortly before midday and had to use special equipment to break in to the home, where they found that unattended cooking had caught light.
Nobody was injured in the incident.
The service said that there had been some confusion from the caller about which number they needed to use to report the emergency.
Watch Commander Richard Ryan said: ‘I would like remind the Portuguese community that the number to call in Jersey for an emergency is 999.’
