Nurse gets 12-month suspension

The nurse who worked at St Saviour’s Hospital and Jersey General Hospital, was yesterday suspended from nursing for 12 months after he was caught stealing several patches from a waste disposal bin in the Clifton Care Home.

A Nurse and Midwifery Council disciplinary panel heard that in September last year he tricked his way into the care home by pretending he was visiting an elderly resident.

When inside, the nurse, who had read on the internet that chewing on powerful painkiller pads would get you ‘high’, lied his way into a nurse’s office in the St Saviour home by claiming that he needed to make a phone call.

He was caught after a care assistant spotted him picking the used patches from a bin using a pen and he was reported to the police. His actions were also caught on CCTV.
