Inter-island flights ‘cheaper if States can offer subsidy’

And it has claimed that the price of inter-island flights can be reduced only if the States of Jersey and Guernsey are prepared to subsidise some part of the operation.

The airline set out its defence of its franchise with Flybe, which came into effect in March, in a strongly worded nine-page letter to the Channel Islands Competition and Regulatory Authorityafter the watchdog recently challenged the operators to prove that the deal was benefiting travellers.

Under the franchise, Blue Islands has remained locally owned and sets its own schedule and pricing structure, but planes are branded in Flybe colours and bookings for both operators are made through the Flybe website.
