St Mary kennels development is rejected despite planners’ advice

In one of the year’s most contentious planning meetings, 14 parishioners spoke against the charity’s proposals to convert two disused barns at Pepinière Farm into a new centre for boarding and stray dogs.

Tension over the plans has grown over the last few weeks, with residents raising concerns about traffic on the site’s surrounding green lanes – such as Rue de Crabbé – and potential noise from barking dogs when taken outside the sound-proofed building.

Ex-Deputy and former Planning Committee chairman Sean Power, the vice-president of the JSPCA, said it was a disappointing day for the Island and that the society’s leaders would now have to consider what to do next.
