Happy 100th for Burma veteran

Major Richard Kelly, a member of the famous Gordon Highlanders, was stationed in the country from 1942 until late 1943, when he was wounded in action.

Major Kelly described the conditions as ‘horrible’, with disease sweeping through many of the other military units, but said the camaraderie within his unit was strong.

Although he declined to speak at length about his time in Burma, he said: ‘At times there were monsoons and I felt like I had been there for too long, but you were with friends, which helped.
