In a written question to the Health Minister, Deputy Montfort Tadier asked what work had been carried out to improve organ donations in the Island since Jersey introduced its Organ Donor Register in September 2013.
Senator Andrew Green said that a number of initiatives had been put in place since the introduction of the register, including asking anyone who applied for a Jersey driving licence if they wanted to become a donor.
The minister added that an organ donation committee, which was chaired by the Hospital’s managing director, had also been set up, and meetings had been successful in raising awareness among clinical staff.
