Several JEP readers have also reported numerous seal sightings around the Island in recent weeks, including at Anne Port and Archirondel.
Paul Chambers, a member of the Société Jersiaise’s marine biology section, said it was not known why more dolphins sightings had been recorded this year but said he thought the population of around 350 individuals is remaining stable.
He added that sunfish, which resemble giant fish heads with tails, feed on jellyfish and can grow up to 1,000 kg in mass, are not uncommon in Jersey waters but notably more had been seen in 2016.
