Economy remains ‘robust’ despite Brexit uncertainty

Dame Kate Barker, the chairwoman of the Fiscal Policy Panel (FPP), a group of independent economists, suggested that reports published this week stating that the UK’s economy had seen a significant lift might have been overplayed.

She stressed, however, that the true extent of the economic impact of the vote to leave the European Union would not be known for some time.

Jersey’s economy is now expected to grow by 0.4 per cent this year and not to grow at all in 2017 or 2018. Previous forecasts had painted a much more positive picture of economic performance.
