Just when you thought it couldn’t get worse…

Sea lettuce ‘icebergs’, some measuring up to ten foot long, have been spotted in St Aubin’s Bay.

Paddleboarder Tim Rowe, who recently made his way through one of the patches of lettuce clumps, said: ‘There was quite a few of them – I would say more than 20. They were spread out over the length of about a quarter of a mile. It is hazardous to anything moving through the area.’

Meanwhile, a Freedom of Information request has revealed that the States have spent £234,000 on trying to tackle the sea lettuce problem over the last five years.
