The Jersey tradition, in which members of the Royal Court inspect and make decisions on troublesome issues, takes place in each parish once every six years, but this was Grouville’s first Visite in seven because it had previously swapped with another parish.
Before proceedings began, attendees were invited into the parish hall to discuss Grouville’s accounts and road conditions and to hear from Centenier Charles Dix about the state of the parish’s honorary police.
The Constable John Le Maistre, said that Grouville’s finances were in good order and members of the Royal Court were then chaperoned around the parish followed by coaches full of voyeurs – court witnesses – to three different locations.
