Now police are called up on Pokémon duty

But the force can now add another strange request for assistance to their lists – young people chasing Pokémon characters.

Since the launch of the virtual-reality smartphone game Pokémon Go, which has taken the world by storm, police forces around the world have dealt with a range of incidents, from the serious to the silly.

In the game, characters are placed on real-life maps which can be seen through a smartphone’s camera and the players then hunt around, visiting locations including, in Jersey, well-known landmarks such as the Royal Square and Howard Davis Park, to capture the creatures.

Last month the States police received a call about a group of young boys chasing the characters around a St Saviour estate and officers attended the scene on Tuesday 19 July after receiving a call from a concerned neighbour. The boys were spoken to but no further action was taken. It is the only Pokémon Go-related incident ever recorded in the Island.
