Weather sparks a wildfire warning

From 2009 to 2011 the Island suffered a series of serious furze fires, many in the north-west of the Island, including a major blaze around Val de la Mare reservoir which destroyed a large area of countryside and forced the evacuation of 20 homes.

Now, following a warm and dry July, and with much of the gorse growing back after the fires several years ago, the public are being urged to do all they can to prevent sparking a countryside blaze.

The warning from the Fire and Rescue Service comes after a man suffered burns while trying to tackle a grassland fire in St Ouen on Saturday after a bonfire spread out of control.
