Underground car park beneath People’s Park? Ministers unveil town regeneration ideas

The Council of Ministers announced on Monday that the ‘enhancement of public spaces’ in the Island’s capital was now a priority and new measures to reduce traffic on town roads were being looked at.

Ministers have said that following the ‘successful trial’ of a newly pedestrianised zone at Charing Cross, more areas in and around Sand Street and the Esplanade could soon be zoned off from traffic and Islanders can also expect to see the pavements in Conway Street widened ‘in the immediate future’.

New parking areas are also being considered, including an extra level being built on top of Patriotic Street car park, new parking spaces being created at Rouge Bouillon when the police station relocates and even a car park being built underneath the People’s Park.
