Two hurt in house blaze

While nine firefighters were on their way, workmen from a neighbouring business attempted to extinguish the blaze, which started when a washing machine caught fire, using domestic fire extinguishers.

On arrival the firefighters entered the property wearing breathing apparatus and tackled the fire, which by then had engulfed the utility room and was spreading to the kitchen.

However, they quickly brought it under control. The two people who had inhaled smoke were treated at the scene by paramedics but did not require hospital treatment.
