Speaking to the BBC, Jeremy Corbyn said that Britain has a ‘big role’ to play helping the EU prevent international tax avoidance because it has numerous ‘tax havens’ among its Crown Dependencies and Overseas Territories.
The UK’s three Crown Dependencies are Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man, while Overseas Territories include jurisdictions such as the British Virgin Islands and Bermuda.
Mr Corbyn said that as well as working with the EU to reverse cost-cutting ‘austerity’ measures imposed across a lot of European countries, Britain needed to stay in so it could co-operate with increasing EU efforts to cut tax avoidance.
