JEP Writing Competition deadline nears

Amateur wordsmiths have until midnight on Sunday 14 August to submit their work for the contest, which is sponsored by Rathbones Investment Management International and is being run in conjunction with the Jersey Festival of Words 2016.

There are cash prizes for the two categories, flash fiction and short story, which is open to writers aged six and above.

Competition winners will also see their work performed on stage at a prizegiving ceremony at the Arts Centre by local performers Andrew Davey, Sophie Le Brun, Richard Pedley and Deputy Louise Doublet.

Submissions should be sent by email to writingcompetition@jerseyeveningpost.com. Entries must include the writer’s name, age at the time of submission and phone number, and must be clearly marked for the correct category.

SHORT STORY (between 500 and 2,000 words)

There are four winners’ prizes of £100 for each age group, runner-up prizes of £50 and third-place prizes of £25. The age categories are: six to eight, nine to 13, 14 to 16 and 17+.

FLASH FICTION (maximum 126 words)

This is open to writers of all ages, but there will be just one winner of £100, one runner-up prize of £50 and one third-place prize of £25.
