Child abuser jailed for five years

Nicholas Price Marvin, who lived in Alderney before moving to Jersey, was sentenced on Monday by the Superior Number of the Royal Court – which only convenes for Jersey’s most serious cases – after being found guilty of four counts of indecent assault following a seven-day Assize jury trial in April.

Three of the charges related to a girl who was just three when the abuse started and one charge related to a teenage girl and all four offences occurred more than ten years ago.

The 51-year-old was found not guilty of five separate counts of indecent assault, one count of inciting an act of gross indecency and one count of procuring an act of gross indecency and the court heard that Marvin, who still claims he is not guilty of the offences and has appealed against his convictions, had told one of his victims to keep the abuse a ‘secret’.

Commissioner Julian Clyde-Smith, presiding, told the court that the defendant would be placed on the Sex Offender’s Register for a period of ten years and given a ten-year restraining order, preventing him from contacting either of the victims.
