New air search plane offers ‘quantum leap’ in capability

Work is now well under way to get the long-term successor to the Lions’ Pride fit for service, however, the Channel Islands Air Search still needs to raise around £80,000 of the £800,000 target to buy the brand new Islander aircraft from manufacturer Britten-Norman.

The replacement of the plane follows the crash landing of the Lions’ Pride on Jersey’s north coast in November 2013.

Current CIAS chief officer Colin Ferbrache said the new aircraft would represent ‘a quantum leap’ in terms of rapid response search capability.
