Customs found migrants with fake passports costing £1,200

A number of Albanian and Chinese migrants, travelling on fake Greek, Italian, Hong Kong and Taiwanese passports, were intercepted by officers last year having paid Paris-based organised crime groups to smuggle them into the UK via the Island.

Dave Nurse, head of service for Customs, said the gangs were intent on ‘trying to make money out of people’s misery’.

In total 19 people were refused entry into the Island last year and Mr Nurse said many of those who were stopped had travelled here by boat from St Malo and Granville in France or flew in from Düsseldorf, Germany.
