Day dawns on Anzacs

It was the first time the annual Anzac Day service to pay tribute to those who fought and died on the Turkish peninsula has been held in the Island and it drew a crowd of 110, who also remembered the Australians and New Zealanders who have taken part in conflicts since 1918.

The Dean of Jersey, the Very Rev Bob Key, led the service and wreaths were laid by the Lieutenant-Governor, General Sir John McColl, the Bailiff, William Bailhache, and the Chief Minister, Ian Gorst, in memory of the Gurkhas and on behalf of the Australian and New Zealand Defence Forces.

Dawn ceremonies were held across Australia and New Zealand – where Anzac Day is a national holiday – in the Far East, Iraq and Turkey, on the Western Front in northern France, in London and across the UK.
