If the appeal is dismissed, neighbours face the prospect of a major building project on their doorstep and hundreds more residents moving to the area, bringing all associated increases in pressure on roads and infrastructure.
Home owners are also worried that the development could reduce the value of their properties by adding more homes to the area.
However, if the objection is upheld and the existing planning permission cancelled, it will be a blow for Jersey Gas and for ministers who have pledged to protect the countryside by encouraging developments to be concentrated in and around St Helier.
