Unemployment hits five-year low

At the end of March, a total of 1,380 Islanders were registered as actively seeking work, 120 fewer than a month earlier and 180 lower than the same month last year.

And according to separate seasonally adjusted figures, which iron out fluctuations caused by seasonal work, there were 110 fewer unemployed Islanders than in the previous month and 190 fewer than in March 2015.

It means both the seasonally adjusted figures and non-seasonally adjusted figures are at their lowest levels since March 2011, however, the figures, which are complied by the States Statistics Unit, showed that the total number of Islanders registered as unemployed for more than a year had increased by 30 since the same time last year.
