Wartime US airman who crashed in Jersey honoured in exhibition

Damien Horn, who runs the Channel Islands Military Museum, has put together the new exhibit after acquiring images of Second Lieutenant W R Davis and his downed P-47 Thunderbolt.

The pilot was returning from a raid over German-occupied France in 1944 when his aircraft developed engine problems.

Mr Horn, who is also the vice president of the Channel Islands Occupation Society, said that Lt Davis landed on sand dunes in St Ouen, opposite what is now The Watersplash restaurant and club, and was swiftly captured by German forces.
