Housing target the shortage of affordable homes

Following the publication of the three-yearly Housing Needs survey last week, Deputy Anne Pryke has said that the States’ Strategic Housing Unit is focused on the development of more affordable homes in the Island.

The survey identified that there will be a shortfall of more than 1,000 homes in Jersey over the next three years, with a particular lack of two-bedroom properties available for Islanders to buy.

The report also showed that over half of Islanders who wanted to buy property could not afford to do so because of the difficulty of obtaining credit and the high price of property in the present climate.
