Speaking during a Scrutiny hearing yesterday, Senator Philip Bailhache said that his department has met in recent years with representatives from several European Union countries which have ‘blacklisted’ Jersey, including France, Italy, Greece, Lithuania and Croatia.
The minister said that through negotiations Jersey had been successfully taken off some of the blacklists and that he hopes the same can be achieved with other EU member states, including Portugal.
During the Corporate Services Scrutiny Panel hearing, St John Constable Chris Taylor asked the minister to explain the purpose of his department’s overseas trips during the last year and in response, Senator Bailhache said that the biggest reason for overseas visits was to negotiate with European countries which have blacklisted the Island.
