GALLERY: A great day for the Irish

Young and old gathered at the Royal Hotel, David Place, for teatime festivities, which included all of the usual Gaelic fanfare.

The day started with a St Patrick’s Day mass at St Mary and St Peter’s church with Fr Finbar Kealy, where the annual blessing of the shamrock took place.

A reception was later held at the Town Hall throughout the day, courtesy of the Jersey Irish Society and St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft, who was later guest of honour at the Royal Hotel, where the Cannon O’Rafferty school of Irish dance provided the entertainment and those there got in to the party mood, with the help of Guinness, Irish stew and even the less-well known Irish delicacy of ‘Tayto crisp’ sandwiches.
