Civil service flights duo teed off on arrival day

Economic Development chief executive Mike King also took his own golf clubs on the trip as part of his baggage allowance.

Last week the JEP revealed that Mr King had travelled on fully flexible return business class tickets to Cape Town with Locate Jersey’s head of inward investment Wayne Gallichan – costing £6,442 each – and the pair have previously defended the flight costs, which they said were within States policy and allowed them to work straight away, as they would be well rested.

They made no mention of playing golf until asked directly by the JEP this week, however, investigations by this newspaper have revealed that the two men, whose flights were booked in 2015, had intended to take part in the 11th annual golf tournament at the Rondebosch Golf Club on the day they arrived – Sunday 7 February.

Read the full story, and Mr King’s email response to the JEP, in Friday’s JEP.
