Plan for 169 homes near Grand Marché rejected

As the Council of Ministers continues to encourage developers to consider town for new housing sites under plans to protect the countryside, developers Castle Properties (Jersey) Limited were dealt a blow on Thursday after spending two and a half years preparing their project.

Their scheme had received support from the Planning Department, who said the development would not cause unreasonable harm to neighbours, but all four members of the Planning Committee yesterday rejected the outline plans.

At the meeting neighbours and heritage campaigners objected to the size of the development saying it would have an adverse impact on their privacy and the site’s historic surroundings, and it was also claimed that it would increase pressure on nearby roads.
