‘I was spat at,’ says Guernsey’s Chief Minister

Deputy Jonathan Le Tocq spoke of the incident as he faced continued criticism for saying that Islamophobia in Guernsey was one of the reasons behind a recent decision not to offer homes to those fleeing Syria.

Describing the attack, the politician said that he was talking to a shopper in a Waitrose store when another man shouted his name and approached him.

‘I turned around. He spat at me,’ Deputy Le Tocq said.
