‘Years of battles’ ahead if park is hospital site

A vote on where the new hospital will be built could be made by the States within six months, it emerged after Health Minister Andrew Green finally revealed his shortlist following months of speculation.

But St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft said on Wednesday that ministers would face ‘long legal wrangling’ if the People’s Park was chosen. He said that despite a compensatory package being offered to replace the green space lost by merging the Parade Gardens onto the current hospital site and extending the Millennium Town Park, the public would still strongly oppose the plans.

And campaign group Save People’s Park have called on Islanders to show their opposition to the proposal.
