‘Rainforest’ and eagles on the way to St Lawrence – major expansion plans for Tamba Park

Tamba Park, which already features ‘animatronic’ dinosaurs and a boating lake, was opened last July by entrepreneur Jonathan Ruff, who puts all the centre’s proceeds into Ruff’s Kitchens, a charity he set up to feed vulnerable children in Zimbabwe.

Located on the site of the former Lion Park in St Lawrence, the attraction welcomed 75,000 visitors in its first six months – a number Mr Ruff expects will significantly increase this year when the park opens for its second season next month.

He has brought over 11 birds of prey from Scotland, including eagles, hawks and owls and has hired a full-time falconer. In addition, he is building a ‘huge indoor play area which will be rainforest-themed’ and a 60-cover restaurant, Ruff’s Kitchen, which he says ‘will serve great African-themed food.’

Mr Ruff has also spent almost £15,000 on a wheelchair-friendly swing and roundabout in a move which he says has been welcomed by the Island’s disabled community
