Lady Butlin dies aged 89

Mrs Butlin, who was born Sheila Devine, moved to the Island in 1968 with Mr Butlin, who she married in 1975.

The couple lived in St John where they donated land for a community centre to be built and in 2015, Lady Butlin opened the newly-refurbished St John recreation centre.

Mr Butlin, who died in Jersey in 1980 at the age of 80, opened his first holiday camp in 1936 and is widely credited with revolutionising the British tourism industry.
