Terri the turtle to be fitted with satellite tracker so Islanders can track its journey home

Thousands of pounds have been raised by Islanders to send the loggerhead turtle back to the Canary Islands after it washed up on the south coast earlier this month.

The initial plan was to send Terri on a luxury private jet, provided by Aviation Beauport at a discounted price of £22,000.

However, after four days of fundraising, the campaign had received just under half of what was needed so it was decided that Terri would travel in a smaller, more affordable aircraft.

The reptile will be transported to a rehabilitation centre in the Canaries by Lee Durrell, director of Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust and her partner, Colin Stevenson, who is a pilot.
