Jersey could be leading player in carbon offsetting, says environmental campaigner

Lobby groups have been considering the Island’s approach to reducing carbon emissions following a UN conference on climate change at the end of last year. Member states gathered in Paris in December and jointly agreed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions worldwide in an effort to stem climate change.

Sheena Brockie, a member of Jersey in Transition, who has grown her own organic vegetables for the last 16 years, says that Islanders now have the chance to stand together to make a difference and lead the way when it comes to offsetting carbon emissions.

She said: ‘We all emit a certain tonnage of carbon just by the way we live, so the idea for offsetting is that businesses and individuals can calculate their carbon footprint and use that figure to offset emissions using carbon sequestration.’
