Children’s Service failed family dismally, says court

The strongly worded criticism of the department responsible for promoting and safeguarding the wellbeing of Jersey’s children and their families is contained in a recently published judgment of the family court.

It details a series of failings by the Children’s Service, which it concluded poorly treated those wanting to care for the child.

It says they were ‘ignored’, met with silence by the department and kept at arm’s length.

The court also concluded that one family member applying to be party to the care proceedings and wanting to be assessed as a potential carer found it difficult to continue to have contact with the child because of the actions of the Children’s Service.
