Poppy Appeal Pensioner dies

In paying tribute to Paddy Fox’s fundraising efforts, the former vice-chairman of the Royal British Legion Jersey branch, Collin Egré, said he would be sadly missed.

In addition to promoting the local Poppy Appeal for six years, Mr Fox achieved national fame and a place in the pop charts, singing in a seven-strong group of Chelsea Pensioners who recorded an album in 2010 entitled Men in Scarlet.

Born in Tipperary in Ireland he signed up aged 17, serving in Northern Ireland, Germany, Cyprus and Malta.

He was awarded the British Empire Medal and a Meritorious Service Medal for his services to the Army.

Mr Fox retired from the armed forces 28 years ago and joined the Chelsea Pensioners in 2001.
