Developers ‘to give more to community’

Environment Minister Steve Luce has outlined plans to make sure that Planning Obligation Agreements – which are designed to offset potential impacts of new developments by providing community improvements – are used more widely.

It is hoped that this will help the States with the Future St Helier Project, which aims to regenerate the Island’s capital and make it a more desirable place to live, work and visit.

The announcement follows news that Deputy Luce is also holding discussions with his officers about introducing a UK-style community infrastructure levy, which would charge developers a new tax on building projects in order to fund social housing schemes.
