People’s Park: Hospital move would need a referendum, says Constable

Simon Crowcroft said that as the park is owned by St Helier, parishioners would have to agree to hand it over to the States.

But he said he did not believe that parishioners would agree.

This week the JEP revealed that the People’s Park was emerging as the front-runner for the site of the new hospital, with Health Minister Andrew Green admitting that it was ‘a strong contender’.

According to sources, the site has been the top choice for several months following a series of secret ministerial meetings.

Mr Crowcroft said that a referendum would be required only if the People’s Park were to be approved as the site for the new hospital following a States vote. And he criticised the Health Department for failing to engage with the public while discussions have been taking place.
