States ‘must push for an online future’

Tony Moretta says that although he is ‘very positive’ about the progress being made to provide Islanders with online government facilities, more local investment is needed to create a strong digital economy.

‘One of the things I want to make sure we see is a bigger proportion of government technology spending going to Island companies,’ he said.

‘Having said that, what the government can tell the Island digital community is that they need to get their act together, to build partnerships with off-Island companies.’

Since arriving in the Island four months ago to take up the post as chief executive at Digital Jersey, Mr Moretta has restructured the organisation and the Grenville Street ‘hub’ and has commissioned a report outlining the areas where the industry needs to focus its efforts.
