Check your home for any flood damage, urge TTS

On Wednesday a home in St Martin partially collapsed after its patio and balcony gave way onto the garage below following days of heavy rain.

Four people who were in the house at the time were forced to flee over a neighbour’s wall after the collapse took with it the only access staircase into the property.

Now, with the Island having experienced three-quarters of January’s average rainfall in just the first seven days of the month and with more rain forecast, Transport and Technical Services’ director of engineering and infrastructure, Chris Sampson, is urging people to inspect their properties and make sure that their drains are clear.
