Farming panel welcomed, ‘but States cash needed too’

Andrew Le Gallais, a third-generation family farmer who has been at the forefront of the local export campaign to capitalise on the Far East demand for premium dairy products, spoke out after Economic Development Minister Lyndon Farnham announced plans for a panel of agricultural leaders, under the title of Farm Jersey, to advise government. While Mr Le Gallais says a similar suggestion was made in the past he is nonetheless impressed by Senator Farnham’s commitment to the industry.

‘It is important to recognise that the minister clearly feels that the agricultural industry should receive more prominence politically, and I think that is a good thing and I applaud him for it,’ he said.

‘Government is going to have to be brave, decisive and flexible in providing financial stimulus if it is to promote our genuine Jersey brands.’
