The States police posted on social media advising Islanders to ‘consider if their journeys were absolutely necessary’.
Winds were gusting up to gale force eight and heavy rain made roads particularly treacherous.
Roads were closed across the Island including Rue des Corvées near St Lawrence Football Pitch, and police were called to a road accident near La Folie Inn at Commercial Buildings.
Trees were also reported to have fallen on the Rue des Pres Sorsoleil in St Peter’s Valley near the War Tunnels and on Queen’s Road.
Shoppers were also greeted with bare shelves in supermarkets as ferries were cancelled due to the strong winds.
