The man, who has not been named, was arrested earlier this month and bailed until Wednesday following a blaze at Gallichan Marine which caused nearby residents to flee their homes.
The States police said the death is not being treated as suspicious. The case has been referred to the Jersey Police Complaints Authority, which is standard practice following a death during a police investigation. Officers are working with the man’s family.
Gallichan Marine on St Aubin’s Bulwarks was gutted in the blaze, which happened in the early hours of Monday 7 December, and the Harbour Gallery next door suffered fire, smoke and water damage and remains closed.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing.
