Paul Walden, better known by his stage name Guru Josh, shot to fame when his song Infinity – released at the end of 1989 – became a top five smash across much of Europe.
He enjoyed a renaissance in 2008 and developed a new fan base when a remix of the track reached number three in the UK charts and topped the charts in France and the Netherlands.
His family confirmed that he died at his home in Ibiza on Monday after a short illness.
Born in Jersey, Mr Walden began his career at the former Sands nightclub in St Ouen, before moving to London. He later moved to the Spanish island of Ibiza where he became a recognisable face on the island’s famous clubbing circuit.
A spokesperson for the family: ‘We are shocked and heart-broken to lose such a dynamic and creative individual from our lives in tragic and untimely circumstances.
‘Paul was a beloved son, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed.’
