Deputy’s busy year

This was his response:

‘Following my election, I received a warm welcome from colleagues and appreciated the help readily given by the Greffe and States departments in getting to know the ropes.

‘I was pleased to be elected into a position of responsibility to chair the Health and Social Security Scrutiny Panel.

‘There is so much to read and learn about the work of these two large departments and I hope I have begun my Scrutiny role in a positive and effective way.

‘I am struck by the enormity of the challenge facing the Island, particularly the issues around an ageing population.

‘My impression is that the government is addressing these issues correctly and I look forward to playing my part in scrutinising proposals for our new hospital, primary care, pension reform etc.

‘In St Ouen, I was delighted to play a part in establishing our Community Support Team which is now up and running and helping vulnerable people in the parish.

‘We celebrated in style in the summer and I enjoyed leading a great team which put together the events at St Ouen’s Manor marking the 450th anniversary of the settlement of Sark.

‘I remain grateful for the continuing support I receive from parishioners.’
