Care inquiry to hear from child care experts in the new year

At the end of this week’s hearing – the final sitting of the year – panel chairwoman Frances Oldham QC announced that as part of the next stage of the inquiry, recommendations would be sought from groups with expertise in the care of children to help improve future services in the Island.

So far the panel has met more than 50 staff from 30 organisations who work with or support work with children to understand the context of child care in Jersey and to explore developments in research, policy and practice.

And in February, staff from some of those organisations, both from Jersey and outside the Island, will be asked to give evidence to the panel.

The inquiry has also launched a consultation for Islanders to give their views on potential improvements to child care in Jersey.

Public hearings will start again on 6 January.
