Frenchmen jailed following £1 million drugs bust

Emmanuel Yves Halais (39) and Emmanuel Gautier (29) who both live in Brittany, pleaded guilty to beng knowingly concerned in the importation of a controlled drug and were sentenced to six and a half years and five and a half years respectively.

The Royal Court heard that Halais had been approached by a stranger in a bar and was asked if he would take some packages to Jersey, in exchange for between 5,000 and 10,000 euros.

Halais then recruited his friend, Gautier, and the pair were given the money to hire a RIB from Dinard Marine and to buy rucksacks to transport the drugs.

Officers caught the duo ‘red-handed’ within minutes of them stepping off their boat at Bouley Bay in June this year.

The court have recommended the pair for deportation.
