Planning appeals panel costs less than budgeted

The Planning Appeal Tribunal, which was established on 10 March 2015, was allocated £192,200 from contingency funds by the States Assembly in 2013 for its first year of operation.

The tribunal was set up by the States to provide a cheaper and quicker appeal process against planning decisions, with Islanders previously having to go through the Royal Court.

Treasury Minister Alan Maclean this week signed off a ministerial decision to approve the transfer of the funds up to the budgeted amount to the Environment Department. But the most recent estimate of the tribunal’s costs for the year so far is over a third less than the budgeted amount.
