Flats at La Collette to go ahead, despite major public opposition

During a Planning Committee meeting this week, politicians and residents and neighbours of the Green Street plot voiced strong objections to the application, which was put forward by Andium Homes, the administrator of the States stock of affordable housing.

Residents raised concerns about the density of the scheme, which seeks to build 147 units in an area that currently holds 59 apartments, and also voiced strong opposition to the much-discussed loss of a strip of grassland that has been designated as protected open space.

However, despite hearing objections for nearly an hour, the committee unanimously supported the plans, which had also been recommended for approval by the Planning Department.
